Domestic Constructing Together With Non-Profit Service

By Fermin Satterlund

Though it's a name that you may not have heard, Bruce Karatz is definitely somebody that you should know about. He helped to revolutionize a company, and changed the face of America at the same time. From his time at KB Home, up until becoming a world renowned philanthropist, he's done quite a bit to help the nation.

During his time as Chief Executive Officer, the landscape of homebuilding completely changed. The company converted from just building homes, to building custom homes. With that, the popularity and profits soared.

by making those changes, KB Home skyrocketed in popularity. They went from a corporation with million dollar profits, into one with billion dollar profit margins. Plus they are still publicly traded on the NYSE. The first home builder to do so.

He's also made a huge impact with helping people as well. The first time that The Los Angeles Times newspaper was noted as an important American philanthropist, was during the LA Riots. He used a lot of his personal influence to help rebuild.

That charitable work didn't stop with the riots, and it wasn't focused on California either. More recently, more energy efficient homes built took to helping after Hurricane Katrina. Providing living and building services to everybody in need.

Keep Your Home Foundation is the charity that he started. In 2008 when the housing market completely crashed, many people in California almost lost their homes. But Bruce Karatz made his charity to help them, and ensure nobody lost their home if he could help it.

Then there's the work he's done to stop gang violence. Through several charities, he's taken a stand to promote education, and to allow gang members to go to school to learn trades. Thereby allowing them to leave the gang life, and start a real one.

He's had a profound effect on America in all aspects of homebuilding. But his effect can also be measured by the charitable work he has undertaken. Both have made a positive impact, not only in his community, but also America as a whole.
