Prepared For Damage

By Melvin Hernandez

Everyone can possibly be a victim of threats. Everyone can actually be subjected to the destructions which such tragic events will leave behind. Everyone can possibly suffer the misfortune of feeling the shocks, fears and losses by witnessing the ruins as they happen. It is even more depressing to know that threats aren't just natural occurrences. There are moments when human beings are the ones who caused them to happen. Priceless lives are lost and valuable possessions as well.

The question now is how to safeguard people and properties from the dangers caused by either type of threats to their existence. One way is by ensuring that the structures that house their activities can withstand the effects of either type of threats.

But you need a team composed of professionals who have the suitable skills and relevant training in order to build a structurally-sound building that can withstand the effects of dangers of such nature. They have the background which enabled them to understand the technicalities of structural dynamics. These people know what needs to be done as they ensure that the applicable standards are met as they implement the measures meant to protect life and property. It is also advantageous to seek the expertise of a consultant to help the team with the solution.

The blast design and all the other physical security measures however must never interfere with the daily operations performed at the structure in question. In view of the fact that safety and business operations are both crucial, one cannot be sacrificed to give way to the other. That being said, a balance must be established in order to integrate the requirements of both.

Threats are bound to happen. We only know that much. But while we cannot establish the accurate date and time of such harmful events, it pays to acknowledge that they're for real. It similarly works to our advantage that we do what we possibly can to minimise if not totally prevent the negative effects they bring with them. And while the threats are yet to attack our otherwise peaceful existence, let us attend to our work responsibilities at the moment. For when the threats take place, at least we know that we are safe where we are.
