Karachi attacks underscore US’ negative role in South-West Asia

India and Pakistan would need to lead from the front in ridding South Asia of big power interest and influence and one could only hope that this would constitute a core interest of SAARC in the days ahead. Until then, the region would have no choice but to confront a great deal of regional instability and discord.

The recent daring and devastating attacks on Karachi International Airport and a security post outside it by Taliban-linked militants, while underscoring afresh the security dilemmas confronting Pakistan, bring also to the fore the largely negative role being played by the US in South-West Asia. From what could be gathered, the region is paying very considerably, in terms of stability and lives, for a lack of ‘forward-vision’ in US policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan.
