Finding Great Science Fiction Books For Kids

Parents know how important it is to encourage their children to read. Reading is a lifelong habit that usually begins in childhood. Finding some really exciting and compelling literature is the best way to capture a child's imagination and get them reading. Some good science fiction books for kids is a great place to start.

Many youngster are captivated by the idea of other worlds. The creatures that inhabit those other worlds can stretch the limits of any imagination. Robots, time travel, advanced technology and complex civilizations are truly engaging for young minds. Many authors create a series of books around a planet or character. This is a great way to really get involved in literature. Following the lives and adventures of a favorite character is totally compelling.

It is wonderful to watch characters develop and plots unfold. Often the characters are experiencing many of the same struggles and challenges that they are. Growing up has a universal elements that transcend time and location. Children can learn a lot from reading about the situations faced by the fictitious hero's of popular literature. They quickly see the parallels in their own lives and make connections.

There are some wonderful all time favorites that any science fiction fan should check out. Medeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time has been a classic for many years. It combines all the essential elements of a great read, including travel across not just time, but other dimensions, complex mathematics situations and fantastical creatures. Generations of children have been captivated by this very special book.

One of the most popular kids science fiction authors is Dan Gutman. Gutman's stories are fast paced and feature very believable characters that children can relate to. He also incorporates historical figures into the storyline. Children will be thrilled to read about the struggles faced by famous inventor Thomas Edison and how some youngsters came to the rescue.

There are some outstanding works that have really stood the test of time. Amongst these is the ever popular Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. This action packed book has all the necessary elements to keep young readers turning the pages. Action, adventure, amazing characters and narrow escapes from death.

Elementary level readers for over fifty years have been enjoying the classic book The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Elenor Cameron. This wonderful story follows the adventures of two boys who build their own rocket and blast off into space. Many parents have rediscovered their own love for this book whilst reading it to their own children. It has become one of the most treasured family favorites.

The big screen also has an influence on science fiction books for kids. After seeing a popular movie many readers seek out the book as well. An excellent example of this is Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games. The movies was a phenomenal success and the book quickly sold millions of copies and is being enjoyed by readers around the world.
