Goodyear Tires Need Consistent Maintenance

By Reggie T. Schumm

Goodyear Tires and other major tire brands all provide a wide variety of tires in different sizes, designs, and degrees of quality in order to fit the needs of most consumers. Since buying new tires is not a low-cost purchase, you certainly want to make the money you have spent on those tires last as long as possible. In reality, buying new tires is much like investing in the future of your vehicle; in order to protect that investment you need to keep the tires and the vehicle well maintained. One of the methods through which you can be sure that your tires will last for years to come is by having your vehicle's suspension aligned on a regular basis.

Although aligning your vehicle does not mean adjusting the wheels or the tires directly, the process will have a direct effect on the quality of your Goodyear Tires. In reality, alignment involvescalculating the angle of your tires in order to determine how the vehicle's suspension should be adjusted. This type of vehicle maintenance prevents your tires from becoming unevenly worn or from getting damaged faster than they normally would.

There are four essential factors related to vehicle suspension that will be measured in order to determine the best alignment to keep your Goodyear Tires in excellent shape. One measurement, referred to as the caster, is the angle formed by the steering axis of the car; if it is off centre you will notice it in your steering, especially at high speeds. The degree to which your tires are tilted inwards or outwards, commonly called the camber, is also an important measurement that should be checked.

The tires along the front and rear axle might be pointed in or out horizontally; this angle is called the toe. All measurements are tested against the ride height which serves as the basis for ensuring that everything has been adjusted properly and is now in the ideal alignment for tire wear and driving stability.

Your Goodyear Tires will stay in good shape if you make an effort to keep your vehicle's suspension in proper alignment at all times. You will have a chance tofight unnecessary wear and tear on the side walls of each tire and keep the tread at an even level so that the road always feels smooth and you do not have to be anxious about avoiding obstacles on the road.
