Dream Up The New Executive Van

By Michelle Howe

Many engineering and enterprising executives pondered a design and build of a vehicle that would cater to the government and high level business class. Some have mentioned creating an executive van, looking for the market to put it in. They have considered trying to sell a vehicle like this in the United States, but seem to run into multiple problems while considering it.

Aside from the US, in China they consider the multiple passenger vehicles to be the ultimate status symbol commuting in the crowded streets. The MPV transport around the high powered executives in the equivalent of the minivan in the United States. These minivans move around the business class and government officials in posh interiors, and nice creature comforts inside.

In the United States, the MPV is our trusted minivans that are highly popular with families in the United States. Created with the ideal to transport families while creating extra storage space needed for those trips. The MPV is considered the family vehicle, transporting everyone around from the grocery store to soccer practice.

The large van did once exist as a personal passenger vehicle, today they are used for hauling people or for commercial use. The old conversion van back in the nineteen seventies was used as the personal transportation with a high end luxury feeling. This soon died off as the gas crisis started, families moved to the sleeker, lighter, minivan which still moved people with using less gas.

At this moment there is no large commercial high end transportation for the business class to high level executive. There are several reasons this has not been developed or put forth by any major automotive company. The first reason is the market is not large enough to design, build, and budget for a specialty program. On average, the automotive companies budget about four billion dollars to engineer and create a vehicle.

The next reason why an idea like this stalled out is no personal market or needs by the consumer. Adding in all of this luxury into a large vehicle like this would skyrocket the overall price of it. If you notice a van during transport to an airport, it is basic and stripped down, strictly for moving people only and never intended as a personal vehicle.

To bring this mammoth to market, engineers would have to find a way to make it fuel efficient. Due to the size and girth of these vans, it's not feasible to use this for personal reasons. Even if engineers come up with a way to make it useful around town, the weight alone would be hard on the wallet with gas prices.

Many executives have dreamed of trying to get an executive van on the road in the United States. This would be used to cater to the rich business class and transport them around crowded city streets. Overall, the idea is sound, but due to engineering costs, small market, and lousy fuel efficiency, this idea is dead.
