NEC was born in 1898 and was popularly known as Nippon Electrical Limited Partnership. It was created by partners Kunihiko Iwadare and Takeshiro Maeda. Successive to the formation of the cooperation with Western Electric Company (Walter Carleton as the representative), NEC phone systems became the first Japanese company that utilized foreign investments. Carleton, Iwadare and Maeda were said to be the fathers of NEC.
