A Couple Of Easy Ways Of Using Infused Olive Oil

By Bridgette Conway

Cooking is such a fun an enjoyable way to use your free time during breaks. If you want to stay healthy, the best that you can prepare are salads and other green recipes. A very important ingredient for such dishes is an infused olive oil. Do not worry because you do not have to buy this because there are simple steps that you can follow to do it by yourself in your own home.

Before you start with the process, you must find a safe way to store the mixture. Bottles with tight covers is always the best option. Moreover, you may also choose bottles that have a cork stopper. Avoid using ones that have metal lids because they can rust after some time, which badly affects the taste of the mixture. To clean the bottles, wash them with soap or hot water before drying them completely.

You may now proceed to picking the herbs of your preference. There are a lot of choices to choose from such as sage, oregano, thyme, rosemary, or basil. At this point, you may choose between dried and fresh herbs. Just do not forget that if you will choose the fresh ones, you need to dry them well to avoid the growth of bacteria.

Exposing your herbs to the sun after washing them is the next step that you should do. Spread the fresh ones on a solid surface for a complete exposure to the sun. Heating them in an oven with low heat can also be done. Do not forget that drying them is a crucial process to totally get rid of the water from the herbs.

Once the herbs have been dried, you can now continue mixing them with olive oil. Put them as careful as you can at the bottom part of the container. A funnel is best used while pouring the herbs. Fill the container closer to the top and do not hesitate to experiment by adding other elements like peppers, lemons and garlic.

You may also try another technique of combining the herbs and oils. Do this by heating the oil and herbs on a stove. By doing so, the flavors of each ingredient will blend a lot quicker than usual. If you want to have a clearer look of the mixture, then you can simply strain the herbs from the oils.

When you are done mixing, you need to seal the bottle well. Store it in a cool and dry place for one week. Take note that your mixture can only be preserved in a span of one month. Once you use other type of oil, then they may last for two months. If you notice any signs of spoiling, then you must throw it to avoid botulism or food poisoning.

As what was mentioned earlier, your finished product can be good for salad dressings. Moreover, they will also be good dips for last minute appetizers. Flavoring your chicken, fish, steak and vegetables when they are grilled are best marinated with oils.

Pasta can also taste a lot better if you use infused olive oil as its sauce. Go ahead and try out many dishes you can make. Live a healthy life by following the steps.
