Does Your Job Requires Good Communication Skills?

By Nick Ashcroft

Nowadays numerous people opt to enhance their communication skills. Considering all the things you can do in life, why would anyone choose that one? Usually, their reasons behind going that route are many and variable. Many factors work together to push people in that particular direction. Many almost get it done, but put things off, never really find their way to starting. Still more hesitate, stand first on one foot and then the other, trying to decide. Many people are scared of failure, therefore they play it safe and don't begin.

How do you feel about it? Have you ever thought to improve your communication skills or not? To help you put things in focus, consider these three points in favor:

Firstly, good communication skills are requested on job-site to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Some jobs explicitly require them. Here's a list of jobs that require good communication skills as a prerequisite: healthcare provider, salesperson, radio announcer, public relations manager. Even if it's true that every person in general is able to converse and communicate ideas, opinions and emotions, few people really know how to do that in order to be completely understood. That's almost certainly what makes so difficult to state if someone objectively is good at communicating. Maybe you are one of those people interested in a job that specifically requires good communication skills, or maybe you wish to achieve better results in your business and in your private life. In any case I strongly encourage you to learn more on the issue.

Next, being aware of what those abilities mean, let you distinguish whether somebody got them.

Now, that's good for a lot of reasons: if you have to select a partner to achieve a given task, you may very well select someone who is on a good communicative level. Additionally, when you know for sure what being able to communicate properly means, you can spot your level. Plus filling your gaps if you have any.

Thirdly, knowing how communication works really sets you free in a lot of ways.

Television and advertisement take advantage of subtle communication in order to convey to our unconscious mind certain messages. But if you get those messages rationally, they can't work against you; therefore it's important to get prepared on those subjects. Knowing how those techniques usually affect our decisional processes, shields us against that weird stuff... For those reasons, and many other more, I advise you to get involved in this world as soon as possible, if you feel interested.

Now, once you examine these reasons, you can see they're somewhat compelling. Consider the implications of all that. Knowing more about how communication works, could really be both very interesting and help you a lot!
