By Janelle Burnett

Many people will never get the chance to explore life under water. To be able to do this you would have to go scuba diving and in order to dive you need to be certified. In other words, you need to be trained. Once you have gone under water, you'll be truly amazed by the life there. You will be awestruck by the colors and textures you'll get to see. If you would like to experience this truly amazing feeling, then your first step should be to find a reputable scuba training Atlanta instructor.

Prior to going under water, you'll need to be qualified in one of three certifications. You will need to have done either PADI, SSI or NAUI. Once you have any one of these three certifications you can go diving. Achieving this qualification can take up to 3 days, however, depending on where you train, it may take up to 5 days.

If you are learning to dive in Scotland or Canada, you would have to learn to use a dry suit first. This is not the case if you are learning to dive in Costa Rica or Thailand. Four components that are required in the PADI open water certification are "dry land" work books, course work, personal instruction by an instructor, hands on techniques in the swimming pool as well as two 12 and 18 meter dives.

Certification is usually attained after a three to five day course. During the first day you'll learn the different hand signals which you will need to know in order to communicate under water. You'll also be taught about buoyancy for when you hit the water as well as decompression sickness during the first day.

Once the first stage of your training is complete, you'll then go through the different methods of diving and go over all the equipment. By then you should be ready to go into the pool situation. You will put on all your equipment and take your first trip underwater in a controlled environment.

After you have experienced the pool dive, you'll feel great as you will then be ready to go diving in open water. By this time you and your instructor will be confident in your abilities to take on deeper waters. Diving is actually not something you want to do alone, so you'll need to learn how to dive with a buddy. This will include checking his equipment as well.

Once that you have gone through everything, you'll be ready to go into the water. The boat will stop at a buoy to which there will be a rope attached. This rope is the one that will lead down to the 18m mark. First you'll get into the water and then go down in single file slowly to 12m, you will then get to go to the 18m mark.

Once you are a certified diver, life under water in your oyster and you can explore to your heart's content. Remember to have respect for life down there, as you are privileged to be there in the first place, so try keep touching to a minimum. If you want to get your certification, then you would be advised to locate a scuba training Atlanta instructor.
