Golden Tips To Finding The Right Flooring Contractor

By Jenny Peng

It is sometimes difficult to search a good flooring contractor when you need one. Please consider these tip before beginning your own search for that right one.

When you meet with flooring contractors and interview them for your project, you may be surprised to find the varying range of experience. Some local flooring contractors have been around for a very long time. Just because a flooring contractor has been in business for a long time does not mean they are the right choice. You could end up with a finished project that looks outdated.

It is possible for you to make your checks out directly to suppliers. If you are unsure about giving the flooring contractor a large check written out to them for items you know they need to purchase then just write the check to the supplier yourself. This way you know the supplier gets the check and the funds do not get lost in the flooring contractors pocket.

Ask for an estimate. Most flooring contractors are willing to do it for free. Make sure the estimate includes everything: labor and materials used. Feel free to compare flooring contractors to get the best deal.

You can find flooring contractor reviews all over the internet. Just make sure you know the reviews are from past clients of the flooring contractor. Getting reviews from a reputable website is a good place to start.

If a flooring contractor doesn't have a physical address, only a post office box number, this is a red flag. This could indicate a fly-by-night operation. You do not want to get mixed up with a flooring contractor that doesn't have a reputable business.

Some designers have an in house flooring contractor that they work closely with and it could save you a lot of headache if you use the flooring contractor they recommend. If you have done your research on the designer you intend to use for your job chances are their flooring contractors are just as good.

No matter what the job, look for customer service. In this technology age a good flooring contractor of any type should be reachable through a cell phone, a receptionist, and/or email. Response time should be within 24 hours or less unless otherwise informed.

If you like to be in charge of every situation, you should talk with your flooring contractor beforehand and let them know. Some flooring contractors feel like they have so much experience and a client that is too involved is not welcomed. So, give the flooring contractor a good idea of your expectations.
