Lego Bricks and More Develop Creative Thinking and Dreams In Our Youngsters

By Sergio Asquila

Few people have heard the story of how the imaginative product known as LEGO BRICKS was created.

It is the nature of mankind to be constantly seeking a better solution or a better way. We have seen this with the invention of the wheel, the printing press, the book, the computer, the calculator, television and hundreds of other notable inventions.

As youngsters many of us saw and worked with an invention that has actually contributed to development of creative minds; Lego Bricks.

As with so many things that we take for granted in our lives this product has an interesting story that is worth hearing.

Imagination is so important to all of us. Being able to develop imagination at a young age puts our youth on a positive track in life. You see, from imagination comes dreams. From dreams a blue print is created that then creates success in all areas of life. A simple toy set that is hundreds of little pieces that clip together that enable a dream and then helps turn that dream into reality is a wonder.

The youngster opens the box and puzzles over the hundreds of pieces but soon comes a vision (imagination) of what could be created. Through this process the imagination is challenged. The mind is developing.

As we look at a box full of little pieces that are designed to clip together it is easy to think it's just a bunch of little toys. It's much more than that. As a youngster creates a vision and converts that vision into a tangible piece of handiwork good feelings are developed. This is self actualization in its finest form and sets a path for further achievements.

What a remarkable development tool for our youth. They can be packed back in their container and easily transported to friends, family, grandparents or wherever the child goes. Creativity travels with the box.

How the product name was developed is an interesting story. Ole Kirk Christiansen, the founder and developer of LEGO, was considering the Danish word 'leg got' which means to play well. Then, on further study he discovered the Latin word, 'lego' which means to put together. He saw that he was close with 'leg got' but settled on LEGO as the product name.

The youthful mind is a wonder when its creativity is unlocked to build trucks, airplanes, buildings, houses, cities and virtually anything the imagination envisions. It is no wonder that these hundreds of little pieces are the most sought after 'creative mind development pieces' in the world.

It is said that the wheel was a major turning point for humanity. The same now could be said for the Lego Bricks. They have proven themselves to be a major turning point for development of creative minds in our youngsters.

You would think that it would all stop there. I find it fascinating that the company has experienced this same creative mind phenomenon and is constantly developing new, exciting additions to the line.

In the stores we find new additions such as Lego Star Wars, SpongeBob, Indiana Jones and many other products that are rising quickly in popularity.

In the year 2009 records show that over 1 million of these sets were sold worldwide. There is no question about the value of this product.

I find it interesting that this company now produces over 20 billion bricks per year and that since the company started has sold over 400 billion bricks. That is equivalent to 60 bricks per person for every person on the planet.

It would be difficult to find family members across the world that haven't viewed and contemplated gifting a Lego Bricks set to youngsters. No question this product is HUGE in the marketplace.

I encourage your continued study of this product on this site.
