Why Homemade Dog Treats Are Better For Your Pet

By Geraldine Dimarco

If you are like most people you like things easy and convenient-and why not? Time is a valuable commodity that you cannot afford to waste. Why is it then that pet owners still refer to homemade fare as better than the pre-packed dog food? Are these homemade dog treats even worth planning? The answer is a resounding yes.

There are a lot of home made dog treats that you can get anywhere. You can find at least a few variants in a regular grocery store and hundreds more on websites. Don't get me wrong, many of these products are acceptable and you will not be a cruel master if you use them; but the alternative is still the better route to take. Listed are some good reasons why it is so.

1. Home made dog treats are a lot healthier. Isn't that the priority of every well-meaning and loving master? By creating your own dog's treats, you can manage their diet well and add in more vitamins and nutrients that will help him to be a good-looking and stronger canine you've always wanted him to be.

2. You are lowering the risk of your canine being a victim to pet food recalls. Again, there are some excellent pet food products out there but there is always a chance that some of the preservatives and colorings they use are lethal to animals. This can be avoided by feeding your pet more natural food.

3. It may be that you have a pet that have special health needs. In certain situations, you may need to create specific food plans to help in his recovery. More often than not, the diet is critical to the canine's general well-being. Consult a licensed veterinarian and have your dog examined regularly. Ask him what food he recommends to give your pet and use this information to improve the canine's health.

4. Homemade dog food is more delicious! Whatever the label or marketing fad may indicate-homemade is still better tasting than the generic store-bought packs of kibble. You can be as creative as you can in preparing Fido's meals and snacks. Slice up pieces of liver, bake hardened biscuits loaded with cheese, hand feed peanut butter chewies to the animal-you cannot imagine the delight you are bestowing on his canine heart when you do.

Now, some people may say that homemade is more expensive than just picking up a bag of pet food in a store. For some this may be the case; however, if you plan it well, creating these treats in your kitchen may end up being more economical for the prudent shopper. A few dozen biscuits can last the pet a couple of months when stored properly.

Are you convinced yet? Homemade dog treats may take a little more effort but you will never doubt its value when you see how happy you've made your pet. It's OK, don't take my word for it-try it out for yourself today.
