Traffic Lane Law to be strictly enforced from 21st Sept; 

Sri Lanka Police announced the re-introduced Traffic Lane Law will strictly be enforced from Monday, 21st of September.

DIG Lal Seneviratne from the Information Technology Division of Sri Lanka Police said buses are only permitted to use the lane on the left and it will be a Bus Priority Lane.

In order to minimize congestion on the entire road, motorcycles and three-wheeler must also use only the left lane on the road, he said.

Sri Lanka Police said motorists who violate the Traffic Lane Law will be fined Rs. 2000/- from Thursday (17th September).

In addition, the Sri Lanka Corps Of Military Police – Sri Lanka Army will be deployed to monitor the Traffic Lane Law.

Sri Lanka Police said the personnel from the Sri Lanka Corps Of Military Police – Sri Lanka Army will be positioned at 20 selected locations.

The Sri Lanka Air Force Drones Operators conducted surveillance operations along the four main routes side by side with the educational program conducted by the Sri Lanka Police.

The SLAF utilized four (4) drones to cover the entry routes into the city of Colombo mainly from Rajagiriya, Nugegoda, Borella and Galle Road.

SSP Indika Hapugoda, the Director of Motor Traffic and Road Safety of Sri Lanka Police said around 1500 Traffic Police officers were deployed to enforce the Traffic Lane Law in addition to 200 Female Police Officers.

He added personnel from the three-armed forces would also be deployed to enforce the Traffic Lane Law if required.
