If you are an experienced pet owner, you know that there is nothing like homemade dog treats that will make a healthy and happy dog. I mean, some of those commercial pet food are alright but that's nothing compared to yummy dog treats that comes out of your kitchen. If you want to know how to make dog treats that will make any canine barking for more-you've come to the right place.

Before we start, you need to visit the veterinarian and have a complete check-up for your pet. Your dog might have some health complications that you need to know about. If there is, you should ask what particular kinds of food you can give him that will supplement his nutritional needs. Find out what your dog needs and look for the recipe that is most appropriate.

First, decide on what you want to make. Usually, treats come in two categories: the sweet doggie biscuits and the more savory varieties. Either one is fine but you must make sure that you have a list of ingredients that are toxic to dogs. Check if they are included in whatever recipe you've chosen and remove them if they are.

After, it's time to prepare the things you need. What are you putting in your culinary creations? Any kind of meat should be good except for salmon and raw fish. Salmon has been said to have caused infections in canines on a number of cases. Organ meat like liver is good; however, you must serve it in measured amounts. Too much of liver results in vitamin A toxicity.

If you want to put in fruits for the added vitamins, you can. However, avoid grapes, apricots, peaches, cherries and avocados. Some of the seeds of these fruits activate cyanide poisoning. Why not also buy special canine related cookie cutters and molds? It makes your treats even more interesting and more than that-other people might find it fun and would want to order some from you as well.

Now you have all the things you need, it's time to cook them. You can boil the meat, bake the biscuits or just assemble pre-made pieces of food. Ensure that all the bones are removed from the meat before cooking. Cooked bones are known to splinter and these may be a choking hazard for the animal. Cut up the treats in bite-sized pieces to make it easy for them to eat.

When you have finished creating the canine culinary masterpieces-what are you going to do about them? It's wise to make a whole extra bunch at one time and save the excess food for another time. Seal the homemade dog treats in an air-tight bag and freeze them until you have need of them. Thaw them out completely before serving again.

There it is, the easy way on how to make dog treats. That wasn't so hard was it? Anybody who loves their pet can do it. Start practicing what you just learned and have fun cooking and feeding your pet today.
