The Most Effective Ways in Training a Puppy

By Geraldine Dimarco

Everybody wants a good dog; the question is-- how does one go about attaining that? Well, we all know that in order to reap a harvest, you got to have sown seed of the similar kind. If you truly want a model canine of obedience, you need to train them while they are still young. Here are some important things you need to know if you plan on training a puppy.

Ideally, you train canines at around eight weeks old. It is more challenging to train an older dog because there will be some habits that you will have to undo. Fortunately, when you get the basic rules on canine training, everything else will be easier. The first of all the doggie rules you must follow is this: make him understand who the boss of the house is-you.

When the dog deems you to be higher than him in rank, he will naturally look for ways to please you. You will find though that the dog will sometimes test you on this. When he gets domineering or aggressive-do not give in. If you do you put yourself in danger of having a problematic pet when he grows up. Always be kind and firm with him consistently.

One of the most effective things you can ever do for your dog is puppy crate training them as early as possible. When you teach the dog to go to his crate on command, you are doing both of you a great benefit. The dog will have his own safe haven from the stress and noise of life. You on the other hand will be freer to make plans because you do not have to worry about leaving the dog alone for a few hours.

More than that, puppy crate training is actually a useful tool in potty training. Dogs do not like spoiling the place where they sleep in (really, who does?) so they will hold it in when they are confined in his special space. Do not keep puppies in for more than three hours because their bladders are not strong enough. Remember though that with crate training, you have to be very patient and gentle; otherwise you may traumatize the poor little puppy.

Puppies will need to be educated on socialization the soonest possible. Take him to busy places where people and other animals usually congregate like parks and malls. It is essential that your dog is comfortable with interacting with people and other healthy animals so that he will be a friendly animal that you can leave with anybody without worrying about him doing damage to anyone or anything.

Make your training sessions around 10 minutes only; but incorporate it throughout the day. Change it up and make it as enjoyable as possible to ensure that your puppy look forwards to the next lesson. Training a puppy isn't always the easiest thing to do-but it truly is one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever experience in life. Begin today and find out just how great life can be with a well-trained and happy dog.
