The Reasoning Behind Turban Colors

By Erna Gutierrez

Around the desert areas, and everywhere around the globe, people are wearing turbans. Specific races and religions, however, also use this apparel. Across nations and regions there are many different styles and turban colors.

The idea behind the hues and shades is sometimes symbolic. However, for the most part, these are just a matter of personal preference. Most of the modern men would wear the darker colors as they can easily match it with their wardrobes, especially in the business world.

When it involves this attire, there are no particular rules to what you would wear. The color would typically show the degrees of rank and additionally race, in some instances. The lighter blue are typically worn for the crown chakra.

Those who wear white would indicate the extension of the aura that would serve as protection for the person. The Sikh teachers or ministers wear the navy blue and royal blue turbans. These are signs of warriors and also serve as a means of protection.

Sikhs everywhere, across the world, wear saffron orange. There is no specific meaning connected to this. It can, however, be related to wisdom and knowledge. Different hues and shades are not always worn for a specific purpose. The sole reason for wearing it would simply be for its look.

The appearance is simply a matter of matching their headgear with the outfits they are wearing. This is particularly in areas where business suits are worn. These would therefore be dark blue or black in most cases. Some of these businessmen would make every effort to match the color with their suits.

In most cases there are so many of these available that anyone can choose any one they would like to wear. Even those in the military would wear one in camouflage. Individuals in the different areas of life would wear what they choose. They would wear whatever fancies them on a particular day.

There are several brilliantly colored ones and hues of varied ones. It also has to do with how you would wear it. It is mostly worn with joy and pride. This is apparel that is worn in terms of what the individual likes. It does not really matter what the pattern, the color or planning is.

It is worn as a means to represent ethics, integrity, spirituality, honesty, discipline and humility. It is part of a dress code of the men. It is also part of their clothing and outfits they would wear daily.

For Muslims the wearing of white is sacred and holy. The rationale is that the prophet Mohammed wore white. Green is also one of their favorites. Muslim men, however, do not readily wear a turban once in a Western countries

Again in the desert areas of Northern Africa, men wear it to cover their faces against the sand. Here they wear light blue, as it is believed to be cool. The cool, blue color represents water. The wearing of the turban colors around all nations, everywhere, is therefore not aimed specifically at a particular meaning.
