There's not a kid or teenager living today who has not heard about Pokemon. The now super successful franchise started with a cartoon show that morphed into a computer game giant that kids still enjoy. The newest installment, Pokemon Platinum, is a fan favourite like the others.
It all began with Ash Ketchum and his tiny Pokemon, Pikachu. He's an electrical rodent and one of the most outstanding of the cute tiny creatures. Pokemon is Japanese for pocket monsters. Since 1995 Pokemon has grown from the original TV series featuring a little boy on a search to become a Pokemon master to record and card games famous and respected worldwide.
Pokemon has made serious money for Nintendo who introduced the small creatures to the computer game world. Pokemon is an RPG, role-playing game for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo has released prior versions with Ash and his friends going to new locations and taking new Pokemon, the latest for the DS being Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. The Pokemon Nintendo game series is rated E for everybody.
Prior variations of the Pokemon series have been released on Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Advance. The Nintendo DS provides 2 screens for play as well as beautiful graphics of the new location for the newest installment, Distortion World. Since it is an RPG, you are struggling with your Pokemon against other masters. In the game, there is only one player but you can play wirelessly with up to 20 other Pokemon players.
Some of the scenes are harking back to the previous versions there is, however, still the addictive property of making an attempt to capture all the Pokemon that you can get your mits on. That's what we all love best about Pokemon: Gotta catchem all! It became the motto at the beginning and remains the way all Pokemon lovers see the game. Pok?mon Platinum features a great story that continues the tale as well as interactive dialogue for the players.
They started out with 151 (including the genetically modified MewToo) and now have almost 400 different Pokemon species. Some are developed forms of original and second generation Pokemon but all have their own unheard-of features which make them great in battle. Yes, we claimed fighting. That's what Pokemon coaching is all about - winning battles. Pokemon owners battle one another in contests for the chance to be crowned champ and win the top prize. There are occasions to trade Pokemon and gain new ones through challenges.
The fondness for Pokemon and the Nintendo DS has kept folk buying the hand-held games even with so many other consoles on the market. How many more valuable metals and gems are not parts of Pokemon versions? We do not know but they'll have to find more to keep up with this franchise.
