Implications That The Indian Turban Has

By Ava Hudson

The Indian turban is part of the garments worn but for various reasons among the members of this group. Wearing one eludes some sense of elegance and beauty in a person. And the name it takes will be determined by how it gets to be tied. It may either be known as a sela, pagri, pencha or safa.

The pagri is normally made from a garment that could be fifty two feet long. The width is normally at about nine inches. This is somewhat huge as compared to the safa which is much shorter and broader. The choice of fabric to be used is something that will vary with the location. Most of them either take the color red or pink.

Traditionally, their use had some meaning. Apart from the aesthetic bit, there were some practical reasons as to their use. During hot weather for instance, they could be soaked in cold weather overnight and used to tie the head during the day. This way, the numerous layers would help in keeping the wearer cool. They would also be used at night to keep the cold away.

In the modern world, one can find the Indian turban in an assortment of colors, sizes and shapes. There are even those that have been stitched in such a way that it is simple to wear them or take them off when one wants to. Everyone will therefore end up having something that goes well with them.

During a wedding, the bridegroom is expected to have one on. This is something that was done in an occasion named the turban tying or rather Rasam pagri. In cases where the head of the family passed on, his eldest son would be given one to do so in front of the other members of that family. This is something that would signify that he was the one who would take on the responsibilities that his father carried before him.

It is something that would make identifying an individual much easier. People in the same religion or location would for instance adorn the same type. Giving one the most appropriate treatment would then be made possible. And given that most of the people who use it for religious purposes keep their hair long, they would double as a means of holding it down. The kind being worn by one would also point out to the caste that a person belonged to.

A person interested in making a purchase can successfully do so through different ways. The reason for making a purchase should however be clear before going ahead to do so. But when it comes to getting one for a social event such as a wedding, then personal preferences should be given some priority. Whenever in doubt, a person more experienced at such matters should be consulted.

However the Indian turban sometimes elicits certain misconceptions from the general public. It is not right for someone to imagine that a wearer certainly belongs to a certain group. Others who associate every wearer with a terrorist are also wrong since not everyone may have the same ideologies.
