Sometimes all a good cause needs to be pushed to a higher level is the people behind it. It doesn't matter what age they may be because it seems like the drive people have is something that cannot be understated. For a group of high school students, brain cancer research seems to be helped in a great way. With so much money being raised in the name of research for this cause, I don't think that it's right to call this anything but a success.
According to an article posted on the CBS 5 AZ website, students that belong to the Saguaro High School have proposed the Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research walk-a-thon and the success has been, to say the least, great. This cause clearly has a good number of followers and everyone involved managed to raise a good deal of money. The walk-a-thon started in 2002 and since that point, the yearly event raised over $1.75 million. Consider that last year's event received $215,000 alone and you cannot deny that the event has seen a great deal of success.
I don't think it's any secret that these events have been a great deal of success in terms of brain cancer research. It's one of those causes that many establishments work to help and for the most part a great deal of work has been seen to uncover new findings to help therapies and seek out cures as well. However, funds are important as they are used to further research along. I'm one of those people who will support reputable organizations like Voices Against Brain Cancer until the goal is ultimately met and even after that.
Students are in total control of this walk-a-thon and it has been that way since 2002. That year as certain amount of significance and I don't think many people understand why. Fortunately, the article went into detail about it, saying that it was the year that three students in the Paradise Valley School District were each diagnosed with a brain tumor. These growths stand as the leading cause of death in teenagers in the United States, which I do not believe should be.
This is the kind of event that will help this sad truth as well as raise awareness for brain cancer. Research has to be done and the only way that it can perpetuate is if people offer the funding that's necessary. Students in this particular school district have done a great job in doing just that and it should be a message to anyone else looking to invest time on the matter. If they have the drive to make it happen, it should carry over to other groups as well.
