Should a Mattress Sale Limit Itself?

By Rob Sutter

When it comes to sales, there shouldn't be any limits that stores should stop at, right? After all, they want to be able to showcase the best products to anyone and the most attractive prices that people would like to buy them at. Even though this is true, there are boundaries that they should stay within so that they can keep their businesses going. A mattress sale is no different and I believe that there is a laundry list of factors that come with it.

I like the fact that a mattress sale can take place and that people will gravitate to it. Sometimes people may feel as though the prices, which are normally set, are too costly for their budgets and they would like to be able to keep an eye out on any kind of price cuts. Being able to jump at the opportunity for those is something that anyone would like to take part in if they were shopping on a budget. However, make certain that these deals don't last forever and companies such as Sleepy's bring in good business.

It's clear that these sales contain a great level of importance but there are limits, aren't there? Sales that are done constantly may seem to lose their value and while this is attractive for consumers, who's to say that people don't lose to these as a form of excitement? For instance, if you eat chocolate cake each night after dinner, doesn't that particular dessert start to lose the charm it had before? This may be a different degree but I feel like the same principle applies.

I think it goes without saying that sales, while important, have to remain temporary and there are reasons for it. One of them is because sales are meant to attract people initially so that they may continually do business with the company, even after normal price points come about. However, can you imagine what it would do to a company if markdowns constantly occurred? If anything, I think it would mean a world of bad for businesses and those who make their livings with them.

A mattress sale is imperative when you're talking about working with your consumer base but that's where the limit should hit. I think that the cut prices attract people initially but then you have to consider that they have to make their own profits. They must be able to sustain themselves for the foreseeable future and constant losses are not going to do it. I believe that it's only way for businesses to continue doing the work that they initially set out to perform.
