Dangerous fun-The Teen Affair With Everyday Drugs

By Jason Moses

Teenagers of today know more than ever before especially with the availability and access to the Internet both on the home pc and mobile phones. A wealth of information is accessible with the simple click of a website or that of a search engine.

Where education is concerned this probably one of the greatest things to have happened but it can also be very risky for parents as they cannot possibly monitor or control the all information their kids are accessing some of which could be misleading and incorrect. This is especially of great concern where the use prescription drugs are concerned.

At different point in a teen's life he or she will be faced with decision of whether or not to try out a drug. In most cases this happens through a friend at school or at social events like birthday parties or raves where peer influence may make it seem cool to use drugs.

Due to the high cost of hard drugs and the fear of the breaking the law many teens will avoid them and instead they will opt for common drugs found around the home and look for ways in which they can get a buzz or high from using the drug.

The first place where they seek out this information is from the Internet where they are able to find thousands of sites that tell them everything from the best kinds of drugs to go for to how to use them to get the best result from the drug chosen.

Cough and cold medicine containing dxm (Dextromethorphan) are the choice prescription drugs as far as abuse is concerned. In what is known as robotripping teens ingest abnormally huge doses of dxm which results in them experiencing a distortion of reality, intoxication or even feeling high.

When dxm is mixed with other drugs like alcohol it becomes especially dangerous since the chances of an overdose occurring are very high since the drug become more potent. When an overdose occurs someone experiences blurred vision, has difficulty breathing, irregular or fast heartbeat and even a comma or convulsion.

There is a common notion among teens that abusing prescription medication is not as bad or damaging as street drugs but this is false. These drugs are used under doctor's observation for a reason and misusing them can be dangerous and even lead to addiction.

The teenage years are a quite difficult time for most kids as they try to find and define themselves. Parents may therefore find it hard to get through to them but with love and patience parents can let their kids know of the dangers of prescription drugs before they try them out for themselves.
