Help Make The Most In Your Small Bathroom

By Ronald Whelan

Decorating so that you can make the most out of your small bathroom is a easy solution to give you a larger looking area. Changing out your sink to a pedestal style or corner one also helps create more space and wall area. Storage items can then be placed on the wall for convenience and ease of use.

The furniture you use should be made specifically for smaller areas. This will help maximize your space and help out on storage issues. It will also give a clean lined look as long as they are kept in light colors. Slimmer wall cabinets can be hung if more storage is needed.

Don't forget about the unused area behind your door too, this area can be home to towels, jewelry and much, much more. Towel racks are made just for this purpose as are holders for jewelry and cosmetics. The area around the toilet is also an area of unused space so use it with over the toilet storage furniture.

Any mirror you add to your bathroom should be large as mirrors tend to make the area look bigger. It should be positioned if you have a window to reflect the suns natural lighting as well. One major thing people do that creates even smaller space is using dark colors.

Neutral colors, pale tones and vibrant light colors work perfect for small areas. Accents when using vibrant colors should be low key and pale if using pale tones for paint then you can use the vibrant hues to decorate with. Large tile should be used on flooring in neutral colors and be limited in patterns.

Using smaller sections in patterns like a mosaic look or with minimal detailing works wonders for small places in making the area around the walls and shower look larger. Colors that work well in these areas are in the blue and aqua green tones.

If you have the option of replacing a large tub with a small claw foot variety or a corner shower stall then it will open up the room too. Instead of using a shower curtain replace it in the shower with a clear sliding glass door. Use baskets and storage cubes for toiletries which can be kept underneath a sink.

Open vanities help solve space issues but give a limited amount of it for storing items you need. This can be remedied by using storage baskets and plastic cubes with two or three drawers to place everyday necessities in. Letting in a lot of light opens up a small room too or using more lighting.

Hooks can be used to hold bath robes and towels close to the bath and shower area and takes up much less space. Placing your cosmetic, shaving and other smaller items in clear bags and labeling them keeps counters clear and is great organizing strategy. Over the shower holders also work well at holding shower and bath supplies with less room.

To make the most out of your small bathroom space remember smaller items like furniture, fixtures and storage looks and works better in smaller designs. Artwork and decorative items should be kept to a minimum as well. A smaller place can look just as beautiful and inviting as any larger area.
