The Secret To Amazing Trainers

By Mark Ceder

Footwear is a vital part of elite athletic performance. Whether it's football, baseball, or basketball, the shoes on your feet can be a big factor in your performance. In skateboarding, footwear is crucial to success. Remember that in skateboarding, your feet are really doing all the work. You can try to skateboard without the proper trainers, but you will be much more successful with the right shoes.

There are a few features you should look for in a good set of skateboarding trainers. Grip is probably the most vital feature in a shoe. Remember that when you're skating, your very health depends on your shoes being able to effectively grip the skateboard. The sole is what will determine a shoe's grip. A flat, broad sole should be able to provide the grip that you're looking for. The sole of a skateboarding trainer may be made of leather, suede, rubber, or polyurethane. They all have different properties, so find the one that works best for you.

Comfort and flexibility are two more key factors to look in a skating trainer. Uncomfortable or poorly designed trainers can cause sores to form on your feet. Skating is all about control. If you have a good skating shoe, you'll have the support you need to be successful. The best trainer should make the board an extension of your foot.

Don't forget about durability when you're comparing skating shoes. Skateboarding puts more stress on trainers than any other activity. The last thing you want to do is find a pair that you like, only to have them wear out a couple weeks later. A shoe that is single stitched is not likely to be durable. Look for a shoe that is double or even triple stitched; these trainers are much more durable. The laces in particular are worth taking a second look at. Because of the stress of skateboarding, the shoelaces can wear out very quickly. A good pair of skateboarding shoes should have the laces protected so that they last longer.

Flexibility is another key feature of a good skateboarding trainer. More control of the skateboard means that you'll be a better skater; flexible shoes allow for more control. Another thing to look for is the depth of the sole pattern. You can't skate if you can't grip the board; a deep sole pattern provides superior grip of the board.
