Great Homemade Dog Treats Made Accessible

By Geraldine Dimarco

You know what's great about dogs? They are loyal and happy and most importantly-they love you just the way you are. Well, this may be true but do you know that there is a way for these canine creatures to love you even more? Seriously, if your dog loves you now imagine how adoring he will be when you serve him delicious homemade dog treats every day of his life.

Alright, for the weird few this may sound a little manipulative but everybody uses this method. Remember, animals are not blessed with the same logic and cognitive faculties as we do. Therefore, operant conditioning is a very effective and sensible method to get your dog to understand what you want him to do.

Not all of us know what this operant conditioning is. What is it exactly anyway? This is nothing more than rewarding the canine's good behavior with positive attention or in this case, very yummy treats. An excellent dog cookie recipe will be very handy for you then. There is nothing quite like a fantastic cookie that will get the dog doing what you want him to do.

Human and dogs can generally eat the same kinds of food. However, you must know the ingredients that will not be good for the dog. Take for instance chocolates. You will never see a good dog cookie recipe with chocolates in it. This is because while chocolates are precious to us human beings-it is toxic for the canine.

So what are these ingredients that we must take care to avoid other than chocolates? Well, for sweet treats you should not include grapes, raisins and macadamia nuts to name a few. Use peanut butter instead. Keep away from serving baby food to the canine also as it is said to be bad for his digestive system.

Too much garlic or onions in any dog meal is detrimental for him. You can maybe flavor some chopped up pieces of chicken or organ meat like liver and beef heart with garlic (or any mild spice you prefer), but do not go overboard with it. Bake them and put a little cheese on top of it. What you just made are some delicious treats that will make all the training worth it.

Some people think making homemade dog treats are not worth the trouble. After all, you can always run to the grocery and get a pack of dry kibble anytime. It is a lot more convenient and more practical. Well, it may be easier to pour out food on the doggie dish but homemade fare are definitely healthier and really, it tastes better for your pet-isn't that worth making them for?

Remember, more than the treat, the dog appreciates the anticipation and the attention that you give it. Keep this in mind the next time you whip up a little treat to reward him for good behavior. As you continue on this path, you can be sure that you and your best friend will have a stronger bond than ever before.
