By Douglas Boghosian

You have surely seen houses during all different steps of the construction process. If, however, you've never been through the house construction yourself, there is a good chance that you don't know exactly how much work is involved. If you are the new owner of a plot of land on which you hope to have a home built, it is imperative for you to have a good understanding of the house construction process. This article will detail the key steps associated with house construction.

Before you can fully grasp how the house construction process works, though, you must learn about the preliminary steps you have to take. For example, one of the most important things you need to do is hire a real estate lawyer who can look over the contract you have with your contractor; do this before you sign any paperwork! Your lawyer can tell you if there are any blatant loopholes or additional problems with the contract. If any such issues exist, they need to be amended before the house construction process commences.

1. After the house construction process starts, the first thing the construction crew will do is prepare the building site. During this step of the process, the construction team will extract any large items, like trees or rocks, that could get in the way of building your new home. As a general rule, the building crew will also lay the foundation for your new house at some point during the site preparation step. The trio of popular sorts of foundations are basements, slabs, and crawlspaces.

2. Next, the house construction process involves setting-up framing for your home. Usually, today's houses are framed using either wood or steel. Inspectors from your city will typically visit the building site at this point in the house construction process to make sure the framing meets all local, state, and federal codes.

3. After the framing has been approved by the inspectors, your building team will begin installing the plumbing and electrical systems in your new house. Sometimes, these jobs will be hired out to sub-contractors; make sure you approve and meet with anyone your builder is using. Generally, the heating and cooling systems are also put in-place during this step of the home construction process.

4. Lastly, the insulation and drywall of your home will be installed. Upon the completion of this stage of the house construction process, you can begin installing your appliances and picking your finishes. The house construction process can take months, but it will all be worth it when you and your family move into your new home!
