Designs For Tying A Turban

By Jennie Sandoval

The differences in tying a turban arise from the fact that it is used by people for different purposes. Women have their own style and so do men and children. Communities in different parts of the world use turbans for different purposes. This has brought about the styles that have emerged.

The basic principles must be maintained whenever turbans are tied. They include covering all the temples in the head and ensuring that the hair is fully covered as well. Ear lobes are also supposed to be covered fully regardless of the design you adopt. This means that the cloth should be of appropriate length.

The cloth is considered sacred since it was handed down by the gurus to followers. It comes with Singhs and Kaurs as a crown whenever it is wrapped on your head. It is a commitment to a higher power that is said to sit on that throne. Members of the community can identify each other using the cloth and is used to indicate willingness to serve humanity.

The triangular shape will get more pointed when you wrap many time. It is therefore necessary to have the right length in order to achieve this. A longer cloth allows you to manipulate the basic shape and come up with a unique design. White color has been used traditionally but other colors are available for different purposes and personal preferences.

The art of tying turbans has attracted designers who introduce modern designs. This is aimed at stirring the air around this culture and adding a new dimension to the tradition. Younger generations in the community are coming up with new styles that are a variation of the original idea. This has transformed the image of the cloth and raised the profile of these designers. It is now possible to see turbans on runways and fashion shows.

It is easier to begin by holding one end with your mouth and passing the cloth above the head towards the back. You should then turn it to the front and begin to wrap it around the head from right to the left. Cover the ears fully with as many rounds as possible depending on the length. This is where you adopt your preferred design.

Several advantages are associated with having the cloth on your head. The fact that it holds your head tightly gives you the power to concentrate. This is one of the teachings of guru. You will have the extraordinary powers to identify self centered individuals when they come close to you. They may cause you to lose your grace.

Hair is important in achieving the triangular pointed shape with turbans. Long hair acts as support for the cloth by adopting a pony tail which makes the sharp pointed shape possible. The cloth is also used to hold the hair together since members of the community are not supposed to trim it.

Emergence of new designs in tying a turban should not ignore the basic principles. Professionals are required to stick to these fundamentals for their designs to be accepted. Styling is just an addition of flair to the basic art.
