By Jennie Sandoval

People who are rather ignorant about he work flow of a New York City portrait photographer seem to think that it is doable by just about anyone. Probably the concept of artistry and business fused is lost on them because of existing misconceptions. This leads to undervaluing talents that deserve praise and professional regard.

People fail to see that it is not just about owning a camera that takes good pictures. Quite frankly, this could apply to most who are just trying to belong in the trend just so they can be called cool enough for the generation. The true measure of being a professional is wherein you can fuse business and creative skill together despite the existence of competition.

There are also legalities about photo distribution, and as artists, they do have legal knowledge about it. Normally, the issues that are raised involve copyright violations wherein the original source of the photo is not credited. It becomes a legal matter when the said party is using the images to earn profit out of the works of others.

Photographers should also have a part in them that is business minded. It is a reality that without a rep to seal client projects for them, they need to amp up their marketing skills a notch higher. Work will not come to you unless you personally seek out for it, and one way of being found is by networking through social media.

While in the field, it is important to break out of your shell if only to reach out to people who might have a project or two. As they say, you must put your work out there, or else no work will come to you. The only way to be known by people is to socialize, and this is one thing that you can manage with just a push.

Not to forget is the creative aspect of the profession. Although viewed from different aspects, a sense of artistry is important that will fit in the theme of every shoot. Of course, one gets ideas from constant learning and exposure to things that are also inspiring. The ability to absorb the ideas of works that resonate within them is also a skill in itself that should be second nature.

Attention to detail is of importance because a photograph has a lot of facets. Even if some people fail to understand the relevance of understanding an image in a deeper sense, it is important for an artist to balance out elements. As such, detail orientation should be given high regard in this craft.

Creativity must be natural in the person in a sense that his or her photographic style is something that can really capture the minds of its audience. Remember that some people are not privileged enough to know the process, therefore they only focus on the output. If such is the case, then experts of the craft are expected to develop their personal taste and cut the message across.

The job of a New York City portrait photographer is to capture shots of people in their essence. Simply put, it is to encapsulate beauty in a timeless piece of photograph. Given all these traits and more, one can say that the job truly is fulfilling. It is a matter of giving more value to people who matter, even despite the lack of publicity.
