Simple Statue Restoration Tips And Pointers

By Alicia Hunter

On several instances, there might be a need for statue restoration. Although some complicated issues may require professional help, minor damages like breakage, dents and scratches can go away with simple fixes. You might even do the repairs on your own provided that you are familiar with the process. The items necessary for the restoration can be easily acquired as well. By considering some pointers, you will be good to go.

Start by collecting the items that you will be needing for this procedure. This includes adhesives, wooden stick or pin for applying the adhesives, safety gloves, razor blade and modeling clay among others. The adhesive may be anything that would hold fast to the materials. A two-part clear epoxy glue may be used for better and cleaner outcome.

Consider the materials that must be attached when choosing an adhesive as well. There are specific kinds of materials that can be used to bond together ceramics or glass. Identify the makeup of the statues involved in the restoration process. You have to determine the right binder to use as some of them may only work on certain materials.

After you have determined the kinds of adhesives to use, you must prepare the surface to be bonded. Make sure to clean the pieces before fixing them. The pieces may not stick well enough if the surfaces have smudges on them. Make sure to wear protective gloves when handling the materials. The sharp edges may cause injuries if you are not careful.

A pin tool, wooden stick or paper clip may be used to apply the binders. Apply the bonding agent to one end only. Make sure that you use just about enough amount of adhesives. Putting too little adhesive may produce gaps weakening the assembly. Putting too much can make it difficult to fasten the pieces together, too.

It also helps when you subject the materials to heat. This can speed up its curing time and adjust the fit properly. The ideal temperature is between one hundred ten and one hundred forty degrees Fahrenheit. Quickly put all pieces together before applying light pressure until the fit is right. This also squeezes out extra glues leaving only the needed amount of adhesives.

Dealing with several breaks from may be more difficult. It is important to determine the parts before starting out. It would be a mess if you work ahead without a sound plan in mind. You might end up soldering the wrong pieces and putting them everywhere. Developing a good strategy may also help in addressing possible issues that may arise in the process.

Placing a number during the dry run can be really helpful. This can assist you in the actual process. Through this, you can determine if all the parts are intact or there are any lost pieces. Go through the number sequence carefully. Make sure that each piece has fully cured before proceeding to the next section.

The final part of statue restoration is the finishing touch. For most people, this is also the most challenging task. Choose your painting and color touch up carefully. You want to return the item to its original form in the very least. If things get too difficult to restore on your own, do not hesitate to call for an expert. They can fully restore the items for you.
